NORTH ROSE, N.Y. — Hundreds of activists nationwide are mobilizing for a historic 207-mile trek from Albany to North Rose, New York, demanding an end to animal testing. The massive demonstration focuses on the estimated 16,000 lab beagles currently held at Marshall BioResources, recognized as an epicenter of the global research animal pipeline.
While the facility breeds tens of thousands of animals annually—including cats, ferrets, pigs, and guinea pigs—the march spotlights beagles because their gentle, docile nature is systematically exploited for laboratory research. Organizers are using this historic march to spark public compassion and demand a legislative and scientific shift toward modern, human-relevant research methods.
Set to kick off at the New York State Capitol on September 12, 2026, the 14-day march will conclude on September 26 with a moving rally at the gates of Marshall Bioresources in North Rose, New York.
According to campaign coordinators, supporters can join the movement dynamically. Participants are not required to walk the entire 207-mile stretch; they can register to join for individual days, weekends, short segments, or simply attend the final day of action at the facility gates. Route details, volunteer openings, and registration forms are hosted directly on the official platform at the March for Animals Website.
Coming on the heels of the recent Ridglan Rescue of more than 2,000 beagles in Wisconsin in Spring 2026, the March to Abolish Animal Testing was born out of a massive surge in public support for ending animal research. Advocacy groups are increasingly demanding a transition to superior research methods that bypass outdated animal models in favor of cruelty-free, high-efficiency science.
"We refuse to accept animal suffering as the price of scientific progress—because we know there is a better way," said March Co-Director Ella Magers. "This march is about ordinary people coming together to do something extraordinary, and proving that when enough of us refuse to look away, we can change systems that once seemed impossible to change."
"Regular people trying to tackle Goliaths like Marshall BioResources and the animal testing industry need an awfully strong action," added March Co-Director Gretchen Primack. "I wanted this march to be exactly that: a bold call for science without cruelty, science that is effective, efficient, responsible, and kind."
