Green Update
NGO Animal Rahat—which provides relief and permanent sanctuary to bulls, horses and other animals used for work, as well as other rescued animals— released a video of inmates at its sanctuaries celebrating Diwali. The colourful video, shot at Animal Rahat’s sanctuaries in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, showed garlanded animals feasting on an array of fruits and fresh vegetables. “The animals at Animal Rahat’s sanctuaries had suffered difficult lives, such as being forced to haul heavy loads, perform in circuses, being experimented upon in laboratories and being slated for slaughter, among other cruelties, before being rescued,” said Dr Naresh Chandra Upreti, Chief Operating Officer, Animal Rahat. “But this Diwali and beyond, the future of these rescued animals looks bright.” The sanctuaries are located in secluded areas, away from fireworks and other loud sounds.
