’’राज्य स्तरीय वन्य प्राणि सप्ताह (02-08 अक्टूबर) 2025’’ के अवसर पर आयोजित कार्यक्रम के मुख्य अतिथि डा0 अरूण कुमार, राज्य मंत्री (स्वतंत्र प्रभार), वन, पर्यावरण, जन्तु उद्यान एवं जलवायु परिवर्तन विभाग, उत्तर प्रदेष, द्वारा समारोह उपस्थिति सभी अतिथियों का स्वागत करते हुए अपने उद्बोधन में कहा कि वन्य प्राणि सप्ताह में वन्य जीवों के बारे में प्राणि उद्यान का भ्रमण करने आने वाले बच्चों एवं छात्र/छात्राओं को जानकारी प्रदान करवायी जाती है। वन्य प्राणि सप्ताह वन्य प्राणियों के व्यवहार को समझकर हमारे विचार आचरण, व धारणा में परिवर्तन का अवसर उपलब्ध करवाता है। वन्य प्राणि सप्ताह के अवसर पर प्रदेष में सप्ताह भर चलने वाला आयोजन समस्त प्रदेष वासियों के कर्णधार विद्यार्थियों की सोच को वन्य प्राणियों के संरक्षण की दिषा में मोड़ने में सहायक सिद्ध होगा। प्राणि उद्यान, लखनऊ में सेल्फी प्वाइंट, नवीन कछुआ बाड़ा और पर्यटन विभाग के सहयोग से ही नवीन रूप से विकसित आधुनिक बाल उद्यान ’’चिल्ड्रेन पार्क’’ का उद्घाटन किया गया है। 06 अक्टूबर, 2025 प्रातः 10ः00 बजे डॉ0 अरुण कुमार सक्सेना ने गुरु गोविंद सिंह स्टेडियम, लखनऊ में त्रिदिवसीय 28वीं अखिल भारतीय वन खेलकूद प्रतियोगिता वर्ष 2025 के लिए राज्य स्तरीय चयन सह परीक्षण का शुभारंभ किया। सचिव, उत्तर प्रदेश वन खेल कूद परिषद, दीपक कुमार ने कहा कि मुख्यमंत्री के मार्गदर्शन व प्रेरणा से प्रदेश में वन दरोगा व वन रक्षक के पदों पर सीधी भर्ती हुई है। उत्तर प्रदेश वन विभाग में नियुक्त इन नवांगतुक कर्मचारियों द्वारा प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त करने तथा शारीरिक रूप से फिट होने के दृष्टिगत उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य स्तरीय चयन सह परीक्षण के स्तर में वृद्धि तथा राष्ट्रीय वन खेल कूद प्रतियोगिता में प्रदेश द्वारा अच्छा प्रदर्शन करने की आशा व्यक्त की। 
मानव - वन्य जीव संघर्ष समीक्षा बैठक 
डॉ अरुण कुमार की अध्यक्षता में वन विभाग मुख्यालय अरण्य भवन में मानव - वन्य जीव संघर्ष के सम्बन्ध में समीक्षा बैठक आयोजित की गई। डॉ कुमार ने गहन समीक्षा कर मानव वन्य जीव संघर्ष पर प्रभावी नियंत्रण हेतु तेंदुआ ,भेड़िया, घड़ियाल एवं बाध के संवेदनशील क्षेत्रों को चिन्हित करते हुए आधुनिक तकनीक का प्रयोग कर मानव वन्य जीव संघर्ष पर त्वरित निराकरण का निर्देश दिया। डॉ कुमार ने कहा कि प्रत्येक प्रदेशवासी की जीवन रक्षा करते हुए हिंसक वन्य प्राणियों की गतिविधियों को नियंत्रित करना तथा उन्हें वन क्षेत्र तक सीमित रखना प्रदेश सरकार की शीर्ष प्राथमिकताओं में शामिल है।
PETA-India trades e-rickshaw for injured mule 

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals India (PETA India) delivered a battery-operated electronic rickshaw to Masoori village, Rajpura Block, resident Pradeep, son of Mamchand, to replace a mule whom Pradeep had used to transport bricks and other goods. The donation will help Pradeep earn a sustainable livelihood for himself and his family, promote mechanisation in the region as a more compassionate, efficient, profitable and modern option than using animals for labour. After a PETA India volunteer noticed the mule’s poor condition in a brick kiln, she convinced Pradeep to allow PETA India to transfer the mule to a sanctuary where she could be rehabilitated. The mule, named Chhabeeli, had her injuries treated and now spends her days relaxing in the shade with fellow equines. In exchange, PETA India arranged an e-rickshaw for Pradeep. “E-rickshaws spare suffering, exhausted horses, mules, bulls, and other animals from pulling heavy loads while being more reliable and efficient than animals,” said PETA India Senior Manager of Mechanisation Projects, Mahesh Tyagi. PETA India works to protect animals such as bullocks, donkeys, ponies, and horses who are abused and forced to haul heavy loads and to improve community wellbeing by encouraging families to transition to mechanised means. Equines and bulls are often forced to work even when they are sick or injured. Handlers desperate to earn money use whips, painful nose ropes, and spiked bits to force them to haul overloaded carts. The animals are denied access to proper nutrition, adequate water, and protection from weather extremes. They are typically worked until death and given no veterinary care for common painful health concerns, including wounds, abscesses, muscle and joint ailments, cancer, blindness, and yoke gall. Since its Delhi Mechanisation Project – a winner of the Giving Economy Changemakers Award – was launched in 2018, PETA India has rescued more than 150 equines and bullocks from hauling heavy loads in the nation’s capital, replacing them with battery-operated e-rickshaws. PETA India ensures the rehabilitation of the rescued animals at sanctuaries and enhances the social and economic status of the humans benefiting from the project. In Meerut, PETA India plans to do a health camp to alleviate of animals some suffering, guide animal owners in better animal care, and assess needs.

Wildlife officials rescue pregnant bear trapped in river 

A pregnant black bear, weighing over 300 kgs, was rescued from a fast-flowing mountain stream in the Chatroo area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district early on Oct 5, the officials said. “The huge bear was spotted by the villagers trapped in the fast currents of Dangar Nullah on Oct 3, and accordingly, a rescue team was mobilised on getting the information,” Range Officer, Wildlife Protection Department, Shafer Iqbal informed.  After 48 hours of hectic and life-threatening efforts, the officials of the Wildlife Protection Department rescued a fully grown pregnant female wild bear trapped in the currents of Dangar Nullah stream and released the animal in its natural habitat. The mammoth black wild bear was spotted by the villagers and they informed the officials. “The animal turned out to be a pregnant female and the brave sleuths of our department risked their lives and took utmost precautions to avoid injury to the bear, and after capturing it, the mammoth black bear was released in the natural habitat,” the officer added. “To rescue the pregnant bear took 48 hours because we didn’t use any tranquillisers as the animal was pregnant and the sedative dose could have harmed it,” Shafer said and added, “If anyone spots a wild animal in distress, please inform us at any of our control rooms established in Bhaderwah, Doda and Kishtwar.” The department called for greater awareness and cooperation from the public to ensure the safety of both humans and animals, emphasising the need for continued efforts to protect forests and wildlife corridors.
