My bond with Chubby and Rabee

Parenting A Pet

Shreysh Singh narrates how his pet rabbits not only provided him companionship during the bleak days of the pandemic but also taught him some of life's most valuable lessons…

The year of the Covid -19 pandemic was one of the darkest phases of my life. Schools were closed, I could not meet my friends and felt lonely every day. The silence around me made me feel empty. One day, my brother and I asked our father if we could have a pet. We never imagined that this simple request would change our lives forever.

A few days later, a basket arrived at our house. As I slowly opened it, I was surprised to see two tiny white fur balls looking at me with their beautiful red eyes. They were two adorable rabbits, whom we named Chubby and Rabee. At that moment, they did not just enter our house—they entered our hearts. They became a ray of hope during a time when everything around us seemed uncertain. Today, Chubby and Rabee are four years old. They have soft white fur, bright red eyes and similar personalities. They are gentle, playful and full of life.

Every morning, they eagerly wait for their favourite food. They love eating fresh carrots and grass, and watching them happily nibble their food always brings a smile to my face. My favourite part of the day is spending time with them. I play with them, cuddle them and simply enjoy their company. I even created tunnels for them on our balcony using cardboard. They absolutely love running through those tunnels, hiding, peeping out and chasing each other. Sometimes they quietly sneak behind me wherever I go, as if they never want to leave my side. These little moments fill my heart with happiness.

Although Chubby and Rabee cannot speak, they understand my emotions better than words can express. Whenever I feel sad or worried, sitting beside them makes me feel calm. Looking into their sparkling red eyes reminds me that every living being has feelings and deserves love and care. They never judge me; they stay with me, and that silent companionship is more comforting than many conversations. Living with them has taught me some of life's most valuable lessons. They have shown me that animals may not speak our language, but they communicate through love, trust and affection. They have also taught me to be patient, responsible and kind. Most importantly, they helped me discover the brighter side of life during one of its darkest times. I truly believe that God has beautifully created every living being with a special purpose, and Chubby and Rabee came into my life for a reason.

To many people, they may be just rabbits. But to me, Chubby and Rabee are my best friends, my companions, and my source of comfort. They transformed my loneliness into happiness and filled my home with love. I will always be grateful for the unforgettable bond we share, because they are not just my pets—they are a part of my family and a part of my heart forever.
